Why do you workout? Is it so you can know how to live a healthy lifestyle.
Has anyone ever asked you this question before? Have you asked yourself this question?
It seems like a strange thing to ask.
Isn’t it obvious? You might be surprised when you dig a little deeper as to why you workout. I know I was.
I never had to worry about gaining much weight when I was younger. I wasn’t in any intense sports but I stayed somewhat active and my metabolism was the real hero.
It wasn’t until college where I saw my body start to change. All the alcohol and late night food started to make its presence very known.
Joy!!
First I started going to the gym here and there with my roommates. We would go on the elliptical for 30 minutes and do 10 minutes of abs and then was done.
The feeling of being so out of place at the gym. I felt like everyone was staring at me, judging me like I was doing something wrong. Not really knowing how to do many exercises or what exercises to do. Honestly I felt so out of shape and embarrassed.
Being so uncomfortable I just stopped going altogether.
BUT, then I got a boyfriend.
SHOCKER. You can see where this is going. My goal was I wanted to feel confident around someone I liked. Who doesn’t? So I met up with the gym again.
Except, it became unhealthy. I started to workout for someone else and not me. I started to bump that 30 minutes on the elliptical to 60. Then I wouldn’t eat as much, I replaced my lunch with a shake and I was miserable.
It worked, I lost weight but I was miserable doing it because I wasn’t doing it for me or my health. I was doing it for an image. The amount of Resent I had for the gym and made it a chore.
Working at a gym, the same one I now own. I started to educate myself, taking courses, reading books, listening to podcasts, watching YouTube videos.
This was my number one goal to be so informed and knowledgeable about health, the human body and all it’s capable of. The mystery of wanting to know if I was working out and eating right for a bigger purpose than just to make sure someone else liked me.
Not only for the fact to teach myself but those around me how to enjoy the gym and love your body and mind in every stage. It’s very interesting in the way our bodies change and realized how we treat our bodies reflects everything. Thats when I started to practice what I was learning, mentally and physically. Then I began to be obsessed with it.
Immediately I knew it was something I wanted to teach people you, and especially girls, who are faced with so much comparison, and so much pressure to be perfect.
If I could help at least one person learn to reverse that mentality I would be so fulfilled. Knowing what it did for me and my love for the gym, everyone deserves to feel that way.
If you think that you need to workout or eat healthy because:
Then I hope this gives you some insight. You should enjoy the gym and love how it makes you feel.
Looking up to someone for inspiration is one thing, but comparing yourself to that person is another. That will never satisfy you. Workout because you want to make yourself better for you. You want to know how to live a healthy lifestyle!
When you are better, your life is better! You treat family, friends, strangers, co-workers a little differently. A little sweeter.
Working out makes me feel strong and powerful. I feel the prettiest when I’m dripping in sweat. This makes me feel like I can do anything after a hard workout. Pushing my mind and body to limits I never thought I had. The beautiful feeling of love and being healthy.
I workout because I want to. Progress is addicting! It’s fun watching my body change because of my hard work.
When you workout, I hope you never do it to compensate for eating too much and I hope you never change your body for someone else. If you are, I hope this gave you a change of heart.
Love yourself, girl. Workout to be strong and healthy, mentally & physically. We have a lot of years to live, I don’t know about you but I want to feel good for them!
I hope this inspired you to make working out apart of your life and not a chore. My goal is to show you how to live a healthy lifestyle.
As always, don’t be afraid to reach out to me. I’m off to eat my weight in Almond Butter Bark.
all my love,
Thanks to my sweet and encouraging daughter Kaitlyn, I started doing the Whole 30 meal plan and started working out in Jan 2016. I’ve lost 20 lbs and 4 pant sizes and feel greatI I had such good result that I decide to continue to eat clean, as they say.
I work with the elderly and I see the diminished quality of life so many of them have due to poor health & mobility. This has contributed to my desire to not only to lose weight but to be healthy & physically strong.
You’re the best, so proud of you!
