The question that has a million answers.
Motivated with work, school, working out, eating right, whatever it may be for you, how does motivation work?
If you wait to feel motivated to do something, you’ll never do it.
Motivation doesn’t exist. Like I’ve said before, our minds are designed to stay away from the scary, uncertain, and new things in life to keep us from getting hurt. You’re never going to feel like doing the things that are uncertain, hard, scary or new. So stop waiting for motivation to kick in because it won’t!
It’s a decision. You’re one decision away from a totally different life. It’s the decisions we make that will change our lives. We have this tendency to have an idea or a thought, and then we start to think too much. We get in our own heads and we start to think of all the possible ways that idea could go wrong.
You’re capable of all those ideas and dreams in your head, but you need to get OUT of your head to achieve them. It’s not motivation that will get you there, it’s you defeating your own thoughts.
Have you ever looked at another person that inspires you and wonder to yourself how they’re so motivated and how they’re in the position that they’re in? And you wonder why you aren’t there? Those people are there because they made decisions throughout their life to change. At one point in their life, they wanted to change just as much as you do right now and the only difference between them and you is that they made a decision and took action.
If you don’t make the decisions to be better, you will never be where you want to be because it doesn’t “just happen” and you will never live a life that you are very capable of living. You need to have the intention to make that change.
Self-doubt robs you of your potential.
Anytime you make a big change in your life, something that you may have never experienced before, you are in a transition of becoming who you’re really meant to be. Therefore it’s common to feel trapped and insecure and hopeless a lot of the time because you’re not really sure where you are and all you see is the long road ahead.
Narrow your focus day to day, minute by minute and don’t think too far into the future because if you do, you will scare yourself. Have goals, but conquer those day to day. You will see how much more work that needs to be done and feel trapped if you think too much.
I would be lying if I said it’s easy for me to continue this brand we’re trying to create, and to workout every day and eat healthy. But I know that if I keep going that one day our hard work will pay off and that goes hand-in-hand with anything that you are trying to do in life. It is so important to make the conscious decision every day to be better and keep improving. If you think that motivation is just going to kick in randomly someday and then it’s going to stay forever and take you to where you want to be, you’re going to be waiting a while.
We all have days where we don’t feel motivated, we don’t want to get out of bed, we don’t want to leave the house, we don’t want to see anybody. Then we have days where we get up, we make our bed, we eat healthy, we work out, we see our friends and you made a decision to do that. When you don’t feel like doing those things, and you do them anyway, that’s when you’re going to make moves in your life and that’s when you’re going to change.
Your potential lies in the decisions you make, not motivation. It’s really hard to change and if you are making moves and improving every day, I’m really proud of you.
